Collage: A Closer Look

Course description: Collage is an art form in and of itself, but also dances around the edges of mixed media. Let's challenge the line between them, crossing from collage into mixed media and back again. It will be an exploration that is visual, material, and conceptually driven. This class will offer you a new way to look at your creative process and perhaps even to appreciate works of art that you never thought you would. Monthly Critique

Course description: Presenting your work and critiquing other artists' work is another aspect of the creative process. Learning to offer thoughtful, useful critique is an important tool in developing as an artist. With these skills, you are able to discern where you need to improve and how to be objective when looking at not only your work, but the work of other artists. Each month, an artist, idea, or movement will be presented for group discussion before work from the group is presented. Zoom. $140 per person, contact Melisse to register.

Basic Drawing and Beyond
Saturdays - January 14 through February 25
1pm - 4pm PT
Course description: This introductory studio course focuses on the fundamentals of drawing while exploring a variety of media, techniques, and subject matter from still life and landscape to the figure. Using traditional and experimental approaches to drawing, students develop an understanding of proportion, form, line, gesture, and tone.Through demonstration, practice, and class discussion, participants also hone the verbal and analytical skills necessary to examine their work critically. This course is appropriate for beginners and those wishing to further develop their drawing skills.

Studio Exploration
Mondays - January 9 through February 27
12:30pm - 3pm PT
Course description: Missing an artistic community? In this studio, artists will bring their drawings, paintings, or mixed media projects and work in a community environment with other artists. This is an opportunity to expand your work alongside other artists. Students will learn from each other, share ideas, and participate in critique guided by an instructor. You will have as much guidance on your work as you wish. Depending on enrollment, students may also have the opportunity to work from a live model for one class session. Each week will end with a critique. You can use oils provided you bring non-toxic solvents, clean brushes off-site, and take away any non-green trash.
